Similarly, I would encourage minority incoming graduate students to apply for the Competitive Edge program, which funds research during the summer before they start and provides workshops designed to familiarize them with the resources available to aid in graduate school success. As a new faculty member, these programs present valuable opportunities to recruit both undergraduate and graduate students to my own lab.
